Add Themes. Rael wakes up only to find his warm cocoon see "Cuckoo Cocoon" gone. He is trapped in a cave where stalactites and stalagmites grow very quickly, forming a cage and pressing on his body. Rael sees Cuckoo Cocoon / In The Cage - Genesis - Genesis - The Best Of! - Special Club Edition brother John looking at him placidly, responding to his cries with a single tear of blood.
As he walks away, the cage dissolves and Rael starts spinning. It is also one of the tracks with "The Colony of Slippermen" and "Riding the Scree" closest to the progressive rock style the band had established since the LP Nursery Cryme. Intense and powerful, the song included one of Tony Banks' typical keyboard solos.
From onward, Phil Collins' interpretation of Rael's struggle was less theatrical and more fierce than Gabriel, which, for one rare song, did work better, and "In the Cage" remained a much-anticipated moment of the band's shows.
