My mother calls me sweetheart constantly and I'm 14, if I felt it was inappropriate I would have told my mother already but when she calls me sweetheart I feel loved and protected. The only time you should not call your child 'sweetheart' or any other terms of endearment is if they ask you to stop for whatever reason. Where I live almost every single mother calls their child sweetheart, along with darling and about a million other terms of endearment. Continue to do what you are doing, I am sure your daughter feels warm and loved every time you call her sweetheart. There is nothing wrong with calling your daughter sweetheart, my wife calls my 3 daughters sweetheart all the time. I've called my daughters sweetheart also. I grew up with 6 sisters and my parents would call them sweetheart at times also.
My sister are all grown up now and they are fine as well as my 3 daughters who are in their 20's. I don't think there's anything wrong with calling your daughter "sweetheart". If anything you'd think it shows her how much you care about her. Does your mother not call you honey or something along those lines?

If I heard a mom call her daughter sweetheart my first though would not be she is hurting that child. My dad calls me sweetheart big deal! No it's fine. It's just a name. Like how mom and dad's call each other honey, so do bf's and gf's, and parents call their kids it too. It's also a food. You're not talking to an infant when you say that to someone. It doesn't matter it fine. I call my granddaughter sweetheart, darling, baby and gorgeous, It's only a saying that people use for the ones they love most, I find my granddaughter reacts more to the words than Welcome (In The City, In The Jungle) - Various - November 2001 Part 4 does to her own name, although we do call her by that too lol.
